Tranquility Moon is a contemporary science fiction story about the day that violence died. The factors that contributed to my writing it are many, not the least of which were the shootings at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida on Valentine’s Day 2018. Add to that a life marked by constantly changing perspectives. Raised quasi-Christian, my family attended a church where only Polish was spoken, which I didn’t. Later, I attended a high school where nearly everyone was Jewish: I wasn’t. While there I played music, participated in sports, and was very involved with theater, which eventually became my vocation, one which forces the participant to view the world through many different lenses. I grew up in a huge city (Chicago), and lived in many more (including NYC, Houston, Seattle, St. Louis, Austin, and others) across the entire country.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have lived in the Last Frontier, aka Alaska, longer than anywhere else in my life. I have worked with all kinds of people; in factories, in the military, as a college professor, as an actor and director. My soulmate, who died of breast cancer at 42 after a 7-year battle, was Cajun, and the person who is the love of my life today is Alaska Native (Aleut). For well over half a century now I have had the privilege of being a licensed pilot, which has provided me with views of the earth from above, from coast to coast, and from north-to-south, which is absolutely the best way to see this great country. Add to all this a fantastic and eye-opening education. Where has all this left me? As a kind of alien observer, a spiritual person with no religious preference, and with the ability to converse with just about anyone on anything. This is the platform from which I write, along with the belief that in a precarious world, outdated assumptions must be challenged.

About The Book
It was an unsettling week for Paul Connors onboard the International Space Station. A shooting at his son’s high school left the astronaut feeling he was safer in space than his son felt in the classroom. This revelation became all the more significant when at week’s end Paul found himself inexplicably on the Moon and greeted by an alien seeking his support in bringing an end to violence on Earth. Paul Connors never imagined he would one day be spokesperson for humankind’s first encounter with aliens. But he was also a responsible citizen of Earth, and fear over the aliens’ intentions was fueling a worldwide crisis for which Paul felt responsible. But what to do? Could the alien plan really get humankind past its dependency on violence to solve its problems, or would it only serve to make matters worse? Most importantly, was world peace even a remote possibility? “It’s so hard to help your child make sense of senselessness when you can’t even do it for yourself.”
